When you request a Moodle course page you can specify whether or not you want two sections to share a single course page. The Moodle team generally advises teachers to use one course site for two sections of the same class if they are taught on the same day and the teacher plans to deliver the exact same content to both sections. If you request that a course page be made with “groups” for two sections, students will be automatically filtered into their appropriate groups from the enrollment keys that you received in the email confirming that your course page was created.
The group mode will allow you to sort your students’ assignment submissions within the gradebook so that you can keep their submissions separate from each other. It is for this reason only that we recommend keeping separate groups within a page. Most course pages do not try to separate the groups further.
If you intend to maintain a different schedule and/or resources and activities for each section, we recommend having two distinct course pages.
