How to Upload Multiple Files including Videos for Canvas Assignment Submissions

Students may be required to submit both document files and video files for the same assignment. If they are submitting a video from Canvas Studio, they may run into issues with uploading multiple file types in the same submission. Below are 3 solutions that you can give to your students.

Option 1: Uploading everything in one submission within File Upload

Step 1: Download your Canvas Studio (or other video) to your desktop first (as an MP4 file, etc.)

Step 2: Add multiple files by clicking the “add another file” button and attaching your documents

Step 3
: Submit assignment

Option 2: Uploading everything in one submission within File Upload & Comments

Step 1: Upload your video to a file sharing website like Google Drive and make sure it is shared so that anyone at Iowa State University with the link can view.

Step 2: Attach your various files using “File Upload”

Step 3: In the comments section, paste the link to your video. Step 4: Submit assignment

Note: Using this method, instructors will not be able to view the video in SpeedGrader so make sure your instructor is ok with this.

Option 3: Using Studio to upload video and File Upload to upload other files (Requires Two Submissions)

  • You can submit your files in two batches. The second time you submit, the “submit” button will read “resubmit.
    • For example, you can upload your Studio Video first, and then hit “resubmit” to upload other files
    • This method could also be used if you forget to upload something (e.g., notecards)
  • From the instructor’s perspective, screenshotted below, they can see every file from your previous submissions. The instructor will have a dropdown menu with a timestamp of each time you pressed submit.

  • You can email the instructor to double-check that everything is submitted as well.
