This checklist is intended to help you keep on track with important deadlines that occur over the course of the semester. Take careful note of these items at the beginning of the semester and make sure to mark them on your calendar.
Beginning of the semester
Week 1
- Announce the following to your students if you are teaching a 250 section:
- If you have not completed and passed Library 160, go to the Library 160 Office (140 Parks Library) to add the course this semester. Library 160 must be taken before or concurrently with 250.
- All students in English 250 must have credit for English 150, or an exemption earned from ACT-E/SAT-ERW/SAT-CR official scores.
- Discuss course polices with students and have them sign a Course Policy Awareness Form (or participate in the Course Policy Acknowledgement activity in Canvas) to affirm their understanding of the policies in your section.
- Email an electronic copy of your syllabus (course overview and schedule) to englsyllabi@iastate.edu in Microsoft Word or PDF by the tenth day of each semester.
- Announce to students when their final exam will be and let them know final exams cannot be rescheduled for a different date or time.
- Conduct an in-class writing (ungraded) in your curricular plans during the first or second class period.
- Discuss the ISUComm ePortfolio requirement and its connection to all assignments in the course within the first two weeks of the semester. Be sure to include a forecasting statement about the ISUComm ePortfolio on your course schedule, and its connection to all assignments.
Week 2
- Request your ISUComm ePortfolio sites for your students by the end of the second week of classes or early in the third week. ISUComm ePortfolios are a required practice in all sections of English 150 and 250. To request ePortfolio sites for your students go to the Request ePortfolios website.
Later in the semester
Week 8
- Submit Midterm Grade Reports by the required deadline (usually 2:15 p.m. of the Friday of this week).
Week 15 and Week 16
- Allow your students time during your lab class during week 15 or 16 to complete their online evaluations in order to ensure a good rate of return.
Week 18
- Submit final grade reports by the required deadline.
