When students come into English 250, they should have awareness of and practice with basic composition concepts from English 150, high school, or community college composition classes. Of course it is important to review these concepts in English 250, but the following should be concepts that students understand and transfer (acknowledging that some students come from programs that are not multimodal):
- understanding the five rhetorical concepts (context, substance, organization, style, and delivery)—including audience, thesis, paragraph unity, conventions, plagiarism
- invention strategies
- revision
- reflection
- documentation
- effective small-group collaboration
- effective presentation characteristics
- good elements of design
- word processing skills
- formatting skills
