The English Department has four computer classrooms in Ross Hall—15, 37, 115, 137. Other computer classrooms are located in C3118 and C3119 Maple-Willow-Larch. Your class will be scheduled at least one day a week in a computer classroom. Each lab has a monitor to answer your (or your students’) questions. The monitors are quite helpful, so seek out their help!
Computers create many pedagogical opportunities, perhaps the most universal of which is the opportunity to teach the multimodal principles of electronic communication. Encourage your students to use computers to compose and revise their work. Because students pay a computer-use fee, they have access to computer rooms during public hours. Each semester, students are provided an allowance for printing in on-campus computer facilities.
ISUComm Foundation Courses use computer classrooms as a key part of learning. The laptop computer classes (held in Ross 20, 22, 27, 131 and Curtiss 306) are “computer intensive” because they meet in the laptop lab every period. All other English 150 or 250 classes are “computer enhanced”—scheduled into a lab once or twice a week, rather than all the time. Computers are also available in the Writing and Media Center for student use before, during, or after an appointment.
