ISUComm continually revises its assessment plan as its program evolves. Sometimes sections are selected randomly for collecting specific student artifacts (a special activity, a survey, a routine assignment, a communication portfolio). ISUComm also collaborates with other universities, especially within the Big Twelve, on program assessment. Periodically, we interview individual students or form focus groups of students and/or instructors. In any of these activities, you may be asked to participate. We try to keep program assessment from altering your normal class routines any more than necessary, and we hope that you’ll be willing to participate if asked. Assessment is always reported by aggregate data, not by data linked to any individual student or instructor. The simple goal of such assessment is to improve student learning.
