Controlling email notifications for students

Welcome! In this tutorial, you will learn how to control email notifications in Moodle.  You can manage email notification in the following settings: 1) your personal settings and 2) a specific forum setting.

Setting 1. Control your personal settings.

1. In the “Administration” navigation bar, click on “My profile settings” -> “Edit profile.”

2. In “Email digest type”, you can manage how you subscribe to a forum post in the discussion via emails.

3. In Forum auto-subscribe setting, you can manage whether you subscribe to discussions automatically. Select the option in the drop-down menu. The default setting is “No: don’t automatically subscribe me to forums.”

4. In Forum tracking setting, you can control whether you track the updates for the post you’ve seen.

Setting 2. Control subscription in a specific forum.

You can also control email notifications in the individual forum.

1. Click on the forum in the course site.

2. In Subscription, you can control whether you want to subscribe to new posts in the forum. Click “Discussion subscription” if you want to receive notifications for new posts to the forum.

3. Click on “Save and return to the course.”
